Garry Steele has a lifetime interest in natural history and nature conservation. He has been involved with many nature conservation and research projects, such projects include a long-term nest box scheme to assist the recovery of barn owls in Lincolnshire , advising on and creating wildlife areas in school grounds and running voluntary activities for schools and junior conservation groups. In 2001 he was awarded a Lincolnshire Environmental Award for his 'Barn Owl Boxes in Church Towers Project', which continues to this day.

An earlier career as a scientific/wildlife officer and farm conservation leader for MAFF and ADAS also equipped him with extensive experience of habitat creation, enhancement and management for nature conservation purposes.
In 1999 Garry established himself as an Independent Ecologist and licensed Protected Species Consultant.
