Ian has a lifelong interest in natural history and has worked in ecological consultancy for over 15 years.
Ian has worked for other ecological consultancies before setting up his own business in 2006. In 2011, Helen Scarborough and Ian joined forces to form Scarborough Nixon Associates. Ian has worked on a range of projects in this country and abroad; with specialisms in bat and bird work. This includes large wind turbine projects in Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Nottinghamshire and Essex as well as assisting with bat surveys in Turkey. The bulk of the sound analysis for the bat survey projects is undertaken by Ian and he is responsible for ensuring that the team is utilizing the latest technology and equipment to provide robust data for their projects.
Ian has become a specialist in sound analysis of bat calls using many different detectors and sound analysis programs including Pettersson D-240x, D-1000x, Songmeter SM2 and Anabat detectors and BatScan, BatSound, Song Scope and Analook programs.
